Vimeo is the second company in just as many weeks to feel the burn of a user backlash. Recent news of Vimeo’s Terms of Service hasn’t been met with open arms. This comes just weeks after the Facebook fiasco that sparked an unprecedented reaction from executives and strategist at the social media giant. As many of you already know, that reaction resulted in the now ‘community led‘ approach to Terms of Service definition at Facebook.
Vimeo, who currently maintain a similar definition of content ownership in their ToS are now faced with some difficult decisions.
If you’re not fully clued up on the recent events, you can head over to the twitter search stream where you’ll find plenty of chatter.
It looks to me like companies are now being forced into paying attention to their users. Companies with terrific startup routes seem to have quickly veared away from the users that helped them grow. It’s a difficult balance to get right, but users and communities are what make online business tick. We’re sure you’ve got something to say, so sound off in the comments below.
